Procedure under the Canadian Environmental Assessment Act
The Canadian Environmental Assessment Act and its regulations provide for a federal environmental assessment procedure applicable throughout Canada, including in Nunavik, for types of projects identified in the Regulations Designating Physical Activities. The Act was amended in 2012. According to the type of project, the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency, the National Energy Board or the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission coordinates the procedure.
The general public is able to participate at several stages of the federal environmental assessment procedure. A public registry is accessible online and lists all the projects under review and that include public participation.
